Welcome to LeelanauHops.com, we are dedicated to the hard-working, pioneer hops farmers on the Leelanau Peninsula, in Michigan USA.
The Leelanau Peninsula lies halfway between the North Pole and the Equator along the Earth's 45th Parallel. What makes the Leelanau Peninsula so unique in terms of its micro-climate is that it is surrounded by Lake Michigan, the fifth largest lake in the world. Magnificent, glacier carved Leelanau Peninsula is home to unmatched natural beauty with its vineyards, orchards, forests, dunes and its lakes, both big and small. Leelanau Peninsula is already a well-known wine growing region and the 45th Parallel is home to other renowned wine producing climates such as Alsace, Bordeaux and Burgundy. The Leelanau Peninsula has all the ingredients to grow some of the finest hops in the world. The commercial planting of hops on the Leelanau Peninsula only began in 2008 and now consists of at least four hops farms, they are:

Hops are the female flower clusters, commonly called seed cones or strobiles, of a hop species, Humulus lupulus . They are used primarily as a flavoring and stability agent in beer , to which they impart a bitter, tangy flavor, though hops are also used for various purposes in other beverages and herbal medicine . The hop plant is a vigorous climbing herbaceous perennial, usually trained to grow up strings in a field called a hopfield , hop garden or hop yard when grown commercially. Many different varieties of hops are grown by farmers around the world, with different types being used for particular styles of beer. More information on the different varieties of hop plants.
